Bermondsey planning appeal success
Fuller Long has helped our client obtain permission at appeal for the demolition of an existing 2 bedroom house and erection of a new 4 bedroom house in Bermondsey. The new build house, designed by A-Zero Architects and located close to the Thames in Bermondsey, London, will replace an existing dwelling that has long since been dwarfed by a newly built development directly adjacent.
The scheme was originally rejected by Southwark Council due to concerns over its height and scale, resulting in the loss of privacy for the adjoining properties. There was no objection in principle to redevelopment of the site as the existing building was of little merit.
Having become involved in supporting the applicant at appeal, the Planning Inspectorate agreed with our case made on behalf of our client that, as a consequence of the proximity and relative size of the neighbouring property, there was scope for a house of this size on the plot and allowed the appeal. The Inspector praised the design of the proposed dwelling as innovative and unique, which when seen in context, would add a new distinct and vibrant element to the street scene that would have a positive impact on the character and appearance of the area.
