Fuller Long have been working alongside Beacon Communications for a number of major UK mobile network operators.
Beacon Communications are managing planning applications for the provision of hundreds of base stations to support the roll-out of 5G mobile wireless networks throughout the UK. Fuller Long has been supporting this huge task by taking on the management of appeals following the refusal of the planning applications and prior notifications for the new 5G masts..
The government has put forward huge investments in order to make sure that everyone can have access to this new and exciting technology and Fuller Long have been working to ensure that all communities are able to have access to the up and coming 5G network. This includes a £65 million funding pot provided by the government to upgrade network infrastructure in rural areas. To date, Fuller Long has assisted with over 70 telecommunication related appeals throughout the UK. The majority of reasons for refusing the planning permission for these masts have been based around the design and appearance. In particular, the new masts are significantly taller than the existing 4G masts which has been used as a reason to refuse.
In addition to this we have also had to consider the impact on the Greenbelt for some of the appeals as well as heritage matters, highways, and pedestrian access. Given the variety of locations that these applications have covered, our planning and heritage teams have had to review a wide range of local plans for different planning authorities. These differences in local policy have had to be addressed in each individual appeal we’ve submitted.
As well as ensuring that appeals were lodged in time with all necessary supporting evidence, project managers have provided comprehensive appeal statements and rebuttals to arguments submitted by the planning authorities. Although we have not won all of the appeals our success rate in overturning refusals has been well above average for planning appeals in England..
